The Truth of the Google Duplicate Content Penalty

“There is no duplicate content penalty. Google’s major search engine function is to provide a customer the best possible results for a search, based upon the search term (keywords) that the customer has used in the Google search box.

Google’s customers are not:
1. You, who use it to get your web pages listed.
2. Adwords advertisers that use Adwords to advertise their products.
3. Corporations or individuals that use it to have their web pages listed.
4. Internet marketers who recommend others to use Google for advertising or searching.

Google’s customers are those seeking information, whether that is to solve a problem, where to purchase a product at the cheapest price, find a sports result or to get directions to a specific location. Everybody that uses Google uses a search term to find some information that they need. That search term is what you and I refer to as a keyword.

If Google detects several web pages offering exactly the same content, its algorithms will select that which best offers the information required and list that. It might also list one or two other pages offering exactly the same content if there are good reasons for it doing so (e.g. more links to other relevant websites, more other relevant pages on the domain, and so on).

So, not all duplicate content pages will be refused a listing. If these duplicates are articles, then the algorithms that the spiders carry on their backs will take the links from these articles into consideration, the authority of the directory on which it is published, and other factors, before deciding which should be listed. It is wrong to believe that this decision has a chronological factor, but, if you include a link in your article Resource section to your web page that contains the same article, then your page is liable to be listed above the others, partially because of a greater number of links back to it from the other copies, and partially because your entire site is liable to be more relevant than these others to information being sought by Google’s customer.” ~ Source: SiteProNews.com

What’s the Buzz all about?

Google entered the Social Media realm today with Google Buzz. It’s a new way to share updates, photos, videos and more, and start conversations with your friends.  Already a fan of G-chatting, Gmailing, sharing Picasa pics and sharing articles on Google Reader? If so, you’re pretty much ready to create some buzz.

Not only am I already following 12 people already on my personal account, Google is already suggesting that I follow other contacts.

Questions to Ponder

- Will the reach be as broad as Facebook and Twitter?

- How will Google effect Facebook, Twitter’s traffic?

- Will Buzz effect SEO rankings?

From Technology News’ article, “From a marketing perspective, one factor to consider is that if there are any SEO benefits from Google Buzz, people will use it more, Havens said. “Likely, there will be [SEO benefits], since it’s Google. Since tweets can raise your SEO — using appropriate keywords — likely Google’s new social networking app will as well.”

Like Tech News said is this a Killer Buzz or a Buzzkill?

Latest News on Google Caffeine (and it’s important!)

If you haven’t heard about Google Caffeine yet, just know that it is a new system in which Google will be indexing pages. With the vast popularity of social networking sites, such as Twitter and Facebook, Google has decided to place more emphasis on these sites in their search results. Don’t worry, it will not be officially implemented until after the holiday season, so you do have time to prepare.

Matt Cutts (Google Mastermind Employee) recently discussed some of the new features you will notice (and may not notice) with the revised search engine…

To begin, if you are a business, and are looking to boost rankings in Google, you have got to have presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Google will start listing these sites at the top of search results. Even live ‘tweets’ will be included in the search results! Sounds crazy, but that’s the direction the search world is heading.

Google will also be rewarding those sites that load extremely fast. For those individuals who have visited a site, only to sit and wait a couple moments for the page to load will no longer have to worry about this issue.

For those companies who are thinking “well, how do I know how fast my page is loading”, I have a tool to help you out… Please go to: www.code.google.com/speed and insert your URL. The results will speak for themselves.

Advantages of Google Chrome OS over Windows

With the recent announcement of the 10-year collaboration between Microsoft and Yahoo, Google is going on the offensive.

In late 2010, Google will release “Google Chrome OS”, which is an operating systems designed to compete with Microsoft Windows, which has been the dominant operating system of choice for the past decade.

This may lead one to wonder, why would I choose Chrome OS over Windows…

- Chrome OS will not only work on desktops and laptops, but on netbooks as well.

- Chrome was designed to run on low-powered ARM and Atom processors

- Chrome can be downloaded on any machine, and it will “just work”, making it a portable operating system

- Google Chrome is FREE

The New Google Chrome OS

Since the launch of Google Chrome, 30 million users have downloaded the browser and use it regularly.  Since, Google has said they are  going to introduce a new operating system (OS) called Google Chrome OS, an extension of the Google Chrome browser.  The Google Chrome OS will be an open source code that will be available in late 4th quarter of 2009.  Google plans to use the Chrome OS in netbooks and have a projected public release date in the 2nd half of 2010.  Acquiring partners for the project should be no problem since Google has the knowledge and funds to back it up.  Some of the key aspects of the Google Chrome OS will be :

  • Speed
  • Simplicity
  • Security

Some technical parts of the Chrome OS is that it will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips.  Google is also working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year.  It will be very interesting to see how Microsoft and Apple react to this news.  Will the Chrome OS give Windows 7 a run for its money?  Bill Gates has already commented on the latest Chrome OS but he didnt have much to say you can read his comments here.
